15 States to experience flooding within 5 days before month end, full list emerges

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has predicted flooding in 69 locations across 15 states in Nigeria. It warned that heavy rainfall could happen between September 24 and 28, which may lead to flooding in the specific communities.

The flood alert was issued by the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Ministry in a statement on Wednesday, September 24. Usman Abdullahi Bokani, the director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department of the ministry, signed the statement.

The ministry, in the middle of September, issued a flood alert to some communities in 14 states of the federation. Some of the states included Lagos and Ogun states.

Flooding has become a recurring natural disaster in the country. It displaces thousands of people every year, damaging infrastructure and putting food security under threat.

Below is the list of the communities that may be affected and their states:

NiMet predicts thunderstorms in northern states

Earlier, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) urged some states to prepare for thunderstorms with moderate rains. The projected states are all in the north. The weather forecast was for Monday morning, September 15.

NiMet has released the weather update on Sunday, September 14. It projected isolated thunderstorms and moderate rain in six northern states. The states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi and Taraba.

Also, the agency projected a similar weather forecast for Monday in some parts of Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Katsina states.

NiMet releases weather forecast, advises Nigerians

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) released a fresh weather forecast, predicting sunshine and haziness across the country from Saturday, January 18, to Monday, January 20, 2025.

NiMet released the new weather forecast on Friday, January 17. The outlook envisages sunny skies on Sunday in a hazy atmosphere over the northern regions over the next three days.
