Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the most iconic figures to have emerged from the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) scene. Johnson recently stunned his huge WWE fanbase as he trimmed down significantly. Always carrying an imposing physique, the legend surprised his followers by drastically shedding weight in a shocking transformation.
Now, The Rock has revealed the exact reason behind his dramatic new outlook and why he decided to slim down massively. The wrestler-turned-actor explained he had been gaining weight behind the scenes to prepare for his role in the film The Smashing Machine, a biopic based on the life of former UFC fighter Mark Kerr.
With that project set for release, The Rock is undergoing another physical transformation and trying to lose 60 pounds for the role of a 70-year-old Man in Lizard Music.
“I gained 30 pounds to play Mark Kerr and then came back down after that to my normal weight of around 250 or so,” The Rock said. “Now I’m in the process of slimming down where I play a 70-something-year-old man.”
“So the slimming down is happening. And we have time to do it, which is really nice. There’s nothing extreme about it. I can’t wait, because, again, it’s the opportunity that I have where I can immerse myself into something and disappear.”
Flexing his great muscles in the ring, Johnson became a global WWE sensation at the height of his prowess. But he soon transitioned to Hollywood and starred in blockbuster films like Fast & Furious and San Andreas. Due to his great performances and popularity, Johnson has continued to receive exciting film offers and projects that allow him to showcase his versatility and talent.
Speaking of his role as Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, Johnson said it was a “challenging” part for him as he had to manage his weight carefully. “It’s hard [and] it’s challenging to do. I put on five pounds here, 10 pounds there, for roles in the past, but 30 because Mark was so much, in a way, bigger and his body was built differently, you realise it’s actually so hard,” he said.
“What you have to eat, it’s not like, great, let’s go to McDonald’s twice a day. It’s gonna be so much fun and let me have the milkshake. That’s different. It’s so specific with the things you have to eat, when you have to eat it and salt intake. Then you pull the salt and water and it’s just wild.”
