It is my prayer that you become Ghana’s first female President – Haruna Iddrisu to Prof Naana Jane

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has stated that he hopes to see Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang rise to become Ghana’s first female President.

Welcoming the Vice President to the Ministry of Education on her official visit on September 24, 2025, Iddrisu described the moment as a great personal honour.

He stressed that her elevation to the second-highest office of the land is a milestone for women in leadership.

“It is my pride and honour to welcome you back to the Ministry of Education, this time in an elevated capacity as the first female Vice President of our Republic.

“It is my prayer that God will give you long life and good health…that probably you will be elevated to become the first female President. May Allah grant you the strength,” he said.

The education minister further acknowledged Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s lifelong commitment to education, as well as her advocacy for gender equality and inclusivity, describing her as a “champion of education, gender rights, gender interests and inclusiveness in the pursuit of government policy.”

He also revealed his long-standing working relationship with the Vice President, recalling a covenant they had shared over the years in advancing education and gender-focused initiatives.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang, who previously served as Minister of Education, was received by officials and staff of the ministry, with many hailing her historic achievement as Ghana’s first female Vice President.
