Marking their territory
7News Sports’ Game of the Week takes us to Springfield, Virginia, as West Springfield (2-2) hosts South County (1-2). The two teams are very familiar with each other and play in the same region. They faced each other twice a season ago: once in the regular season and once in the playoffs. After the Stallions defeated the Spartans 43-25 last September, West Springfield got its revenge in the playoffs by taking down South County 41-12. However, while the Spartans got the last laugh, the Stallions have had their number for a long time.
Before the 2024-25 season, the Stallions had defeated West Springfield 16 consecutive times dating back to 2010-2011. To set the stage ever further, during the summer, a SportsCenter social media post on Instagram highlighted several West Springfield players posing in their uniforms outside South County High School in Lorton, Virginia, with the caption ‘team takes media day photos at rival school.’ While you many struggle to consider the two as rivals based on results, there may be some proverbial ‘bad blood’ between the two. This game kicks off from West Springfield on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
