North Bay athletes of the week: Top performers in football, volleyball and more

North Bay high school athletes continued to deliver impressive performances in the fall sports season.

Hanisi Daveta, Maria Carrillo flag football: Daveta has been on fire for Carrillo in the school’s first season playing the sport, with four passing touchdowns in Wednesday’s 29-6 win over Rancho Cotate.
Marvella Cortes, Montgomery flag football: Cortes got it done on both sides of the ball in Wednesday’s game, with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 20-13 win over Piner.
Mason Caturegli, St. Vincent football: Another outstanding performance by the Mustangs’ running back came Saturday night in Humboldt County. He had 17 carries for 292 yards with three touchdowns on the ground and 54 receiving yards and a score, to go along with 13 total tackles on defense (two for loss) and a sack in a 71-33 win over Arcata.
Malakai Pathoumnourack, Cardinal Newman football: Pathoumnourack is becoming one of the breakout players in the area, and Friday night helped show why. He had 15 carries for 161 yards and four scores in the Cardinals’ 39-7 win over Bishop O’Dowd.
Cayden Waldrop, Sonoma Valley football: Waldrop was a key factor in Sonoma Valley’s 41-34 win Friday night at Santa Rosa. He rumbled 30 times for 259 yards with three touchdowns on the ground, and also had a receiving touchdown to match.
Cienna Alvarez and Kimberly Wilson, Cardinal Newman volleyball: The duo of Alvarez and Wilson has been one of the best in the North Bay this season. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Pleasant Valley , Alvarez had 26 kills and 13 digs, while Wilson turned in a whopping 55 assists.
Teneli Galli, Windsor volleyball: Windsor’s dynamo has been all over the place for the Jaguars, totaling 36 digs with 15 kills in two games against Chico and Pleasant Valley over the past past week.
Emma Schwappach, Petaluma volleyball: The heartbeat of the Trojans this season, Schwappach has been superb on the court — and it showed in Thursday’s 3-1 win over Justin-Siena, when she totaled 25 digs and three aces.
Cameron Jones, Maria Carrillo cross country: Jones ran a time of 14:56 at the Woodbridge Invitational on Saturday in Irvine. The 3-mile time is No. 18 in Redwood Empire history, according to records kept by redwoodempirerunning.com.
Ashlin Mallon, Cardinal Newman cross country: Mallon continued her torrid pace by running a 17:05.1 at Woodbridge. The 3-mile time is No. 11 all-time in Redwood Empire history, per redwoodempirerunning.com.
Brody Hansel, Cardinal Newman water polo: Hansel tallied 15 goals, 19 assists and 13 assists to lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 appearance at the Granite Bay Tournament this past weekend. Newman beat Christian Brothers (10-2), St. Mary’s-Stockton (16-12), Bella Vista (14-6) and Woodcreek (14-7).
