The long waiting game for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is getting just slightly shorter.
Sony revealed the animated feature will arrive a week earlier than expected, and land on June 18, 2027 in Imax and premium formats. Notably, that new date will cover the Juneteenth holiday as well as Father’s Day. It previously was dated for June 25, 2027.
Beyond the Spider-Verse is arguably the most anticipated animated movie on any studio’s release calendar. It is the third installment of hte Spider-Verse trilogy, which began with the Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and continued with Across the Spider-Verse (2023). The first film earned 393.6 million globally and helped usher in a new era of inventive animation. The sequel earned $690.6 million globally, showing how the original film had grown in popularity in the intervening years on home entertainment.
Across the Spider-Verse ended in a cliffhanger, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) stuck in an alternate reality, held hostage by a villainous version of himself.
Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson direct Beyond, with Phil Lord, Chris Miller and David Callaham writing the script. It’s hard to believe, but at one point the film was dated for March 29, 2024, just nine months after Across the Spider-Verse. Though observers had a hard time believing it would hit that date, given the intricate nature of the franchise and the perfectionist tendencies of series masterminds Lord and Miller.
The voice cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld and Daniel Kaluuya. This is the latest date tweak for the movie, which also once held the June 4, 2027 date.
