How to beat Sister Splinter in Hollow Knight: Silksong

High in the Far Fields of Pharloom lurks Sister Splinter, the boss guarding a vital ability, and one of the simpler bosses you’ll face on your journey. That doesn’t mean you can take her lightly, as she has a few tricks up her sleeve to make even this straightforward fight a challenge. Here’s how to beat Sister Splinter.

How to beat Sister Splinter in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Sister Splinter only has a few attacks and two phases, and she doesn’t have a huge amount of health either. However, if you don’t know what to expect, it’s still easy to get caught out by her moves.

The main threat you’ll need to deal with is actually the mobs she spawns midway through the fight. They also have attacks that can deal two masks of damage, and needing to deal with them while the boss fills the screen can get overwhelming fast.

All Sister Splinter attacks in Hollow Knight: Silksong

You’ll only need to deal with three attacks when fighting Sister Splinter. The trouble is finding the space in the arena to deal with all of them.

Triple slam

The only attack Sister Splinter uses is to quickly slam the floor of the arena three times. To avoid the slams, I found it easier to dash to the opposite side of the hand. So if Sister Splinter is slamming with her left hand, dash to the left such that you avoid the hit. The attack’s hitbox seems to be slightly smaller on the outside of the boss’s arm.

Summon mobs

Sister Splinter screams and summons one or two smaller flying enemies. You’ll want to delete them as soon as possible with Silk abilities, as they float about in odd arcs and their spin attacks have lingering hitboxes that will cost you two masks of health if you aren’t careful.

Summon vines

This attack is the only one that evolves as the fight goes on. Whenever she disappears from the field, there’s a high chance she’ll summon more of the thorned vines that guard the edges of the arena. Initially, you’ll only need to deal with two, but in the second portion of the encounter, she’ll fill the screen with them. You’ll want to immediately hit any nearby vines three times to destroy them to give yourself room to breathe.

The last threat you’ll face when fighting Sister Splinter occurs when she staggers. When you stun her, she’ll fall from the ceiling. You’ll want to get out of the way, as she can still deal two masks of damage by falling on you or if you touch her while she’s on the ground. Annoying, I know, but it’s not something you can take lightly.

As long as you can deal with her mobs quickly and avoid taking damage from the vines, beating Sister Splinter is a simple enough task. You’ll even receive the Cling Grip ability for your trouble.
