Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US President Donald Trump exchanged pleasantries at Arab-Islamic summit in New York on Wednesday. As per details, the two leaders held an informal meeting with pleasant exchange of greetings. A warm handshake and a candid conversation marked the meeting. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also present on the occasion. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the Arab-Islamic Summit hosted by US President Donald Trump and the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Ahead of the meeting, the prime minister also held meetings with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, King Abdullah II of Jordan and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The meetings were marked by warm handshakes, informal and candid conversations, and meaningful exchanges among the world leaders. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington today (Thursday), in what officials describe as part of a renewed push to reset Pakistan-US ties. According to diplomatic sources, the prime minister will briefly travel to Washington from New York, where he is attending the session of the UN General Assembly, for the meeting with President Trump. This will be the first meeting between the US President and the Pakistani prime minister at the White House since July 2019 when then prime minister Imran Khan travelled to Washington and met President Trump. Trump’s successor President Joe Biden had completely ignored Pakistan and never even spoke to any of the prime ministers on the phone, let alone inviting them over at the White House. However, since President Trump took office in January, there has been a dramatic and unexpected shift in the Pakistan-US relationship. The United States Navy ship USS Wayne E. Meyer arrived at Karachi Port for a two-day visit, marking another milestone in the ongoing maritime cooperation between the Pakistan Navy and the United States Navy. Pakistan Navy officials welcomed the visiting crew. The US Chargé d’ Affaires and officials from the US Consulate also attended the event. As part of the visit, officers and sailors of USS WAYNE E. MEYER will collaborate with Pakistan Navy counterparts through professional interactions, combined training and focused operational dialogues. These activities are designed to enhance interoperability, foster mutual understanding, and strengthen operational coordination.
