Law enforcement officers will flood Prince George’s County streets this Friday and Saturday, officials said.
Command staff from every county, municipal and state police agency with jurisdiction in Prince George’s County, along with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), packed a room at PGPD headquarters on Wednesday to announce a collaborative effort to put cops on the streets.
“The overall goal is to one, unify law enforcement, but two, make sure our community has a safe environment to come out,” said Prince George’s Police Department (PGPD) Chief George Nader. This effort has nothing to do with the federal police takeover and national guard presence in the District, said Nader.

The “Blue Lights Nights” program will have each police district hosting community events on Friday night, said Nader.
“To give people the opportunity to come out and see law enforcement working together hand in hand to keep them safe,” said Nader, “That’s really the bottom line.”
Nader could not give specific numbers of extra officers who will be on patrol. Along with PGPD and the municipal departments, the Maryland State Police will focus on increased traffic enforcement, and MPD officers will focus on the Maryland-D.C. border.

“Obviously, for our criminals, who know no borders, we’re gonna make sure they get the proper messaging as well.” MPD Assistant Chief Andre Wright said. “That if you’re going to break the law either in the County or the District of Columbia, there will be penalties.”
This collaboration is only scheduled for Friday and Saturday, so far. If it becomes necessary, they can do it again, said Nader.
