Tropical Storm Humberto forms in Central Atlantic

Tropical Storm Humberto has formed in the Central Tropical Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center. Humberto is approximately 550 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. The storm is moving west-northwest at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
Humberto is expected to continue on a west-northwest to northwest trajectory over the coming days, with a slower forward speed anticipated. The storm is currently not posing any threat to land, and no coastal watches or warnings are in effect.
Satellite data indicates that Humberto has developed a well-defined low-level center with organized deep convection primarily on its eastern side. The storm is in a favorable environment for strengthening, with warm sea surface temperatures and moist mid-level conditions. However, moderate westerly wind shear may cause an asymmetric storm structure in the short term.
The National Hurricane Center’s forecast suggests that Humberto will strengthen over the next several days, with the potential for a more northward turn later in the forecast period due to an approaching trough off the east coast of the United States. Despite this, there remains uncertainty in the storm’s track and intensity, particularly beyond three days.
