SALIX, Iowa — State Sen. Kevin Alons is looking to stick around in Des Moines through at least 2031.
Wednesday morning, the Republican legislator and former F-16 pilot announced he’ll be seeking reelection in 2026. Alons ran unopposed in 2022 to secure his first term as the state senator for District 7 which includes all of Monona County as well as parts of the counties of Woodbury, Plymouth and Cherokee.
“With every passing day, it becomes more apparent that our state and nation are in significant decline — far too many children can’t read, write, or show math proficiency, tensions and violence are stoked and encouraged by the radical left, and the foundation of our nation, the Constitution, is routinely ignored at every level of government,” Alons said in a campaign announcement.
In the 2025 legislative session, Alons had “yes” votes on: removing gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act, restrictions for the use of eminent domain in building a carbon-capture pipeline, Medicaid work requirements, hands-free driving legislation and an unemployment insurance tax reduction.
Alons previously told The Journal that one disappointment from the 2025 session was no senate passage of “SF443” which would have Iowa join 20+ other states that require pornography websites require age verification prior to access.
“I served 29 years in the U.S. military to protect the people of my nation and defend our Constitution from enemies, foreign and domestic. I am absolutely resolute in my fight for our God-given unalienable rights embodied in our Constitution, and pledge to continue the fight every day in our state capitol as long as I have that opportunity,” Alons said Wednesday.
