The 71st National Film Awards, announced on August 1, quickly became the talk of the town, especially as superstar Shah Rukh Khan earned his first-ever National Award. After the initial buzz over the winners settled, the big question on everyone’s mind was: when will the awards ceremony take place? Now, we finally have an answer. The coveted awards ceremony will take place in September at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the wait won’t be long. A source revealed, “The 71st National Film Awards will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 4:00 pm. As always, it’ll be held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The winners and jury members were informed about the time, date and venue through an official letter and invitation. As per the protocol, the invitees can avail of flight tickets, accommodation and pick up and drop from Delhi airport; the same has been mentioned in the letter.”
This year’s winners — including Shah Rukh Khan, Vikrant Massey, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sudipto Sen, Janki Bodiwala, Shilpa Rao, and Vaibhavi Merchant — are expected to attend in full strength. President Droupadi Murmu will present the honours.
Who were the major winners of 71st National Film Awards?
Among the major awards, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s VVC Films bagged Best Feature Film for 12th Fail. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was named Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Sudipto Sen earned Best Director for The Kerala Story. Shah Rukh Khan (Jawan) and Vikrant Massey (12th Fail) shared Best Actor, while Rani Mukerji won Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Janki Bodiwala and Urvashi shared Best Supporting Actress for Vash and Ullozhukku, respectively. Shilpa Rao was honoured for her rendition of “Chaleya” in Jawan, and Deepak Kingrani took home the Best Dialogue Writer award for Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai.
