Keanu Reeves and his artist girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, are going strong after nearly a decade together.
The couple went public with their relationship at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles in November 2019, though they first met in 2009. Their romantic connection reportedly grew out of Grant collaborating with Reeves on a series of art and literary projects, including the Matrix star’s books, Ode to Happiness and Shadows.
Grant has only rarely spoken publicly about dating Reeves, though she did admit to British Vogue in 2020 that their first red carpet appearance made huge waves in her social circle.
“I think every single person I knew called me in the first week of November, and that’s fascinating,” she joked. “But the question I’ve been asking in all of this is: ‘What is the opportunity for good?’”
The Matrix star previously dated actress Jennifer Syme, who died in a car accident in 2001, and model China Chow. He has also admitted to once having a crush on his Speed costar Sandra Bullock.

1. Grant Is Well-Known in the Art World
The California College of the Arts graduate — who has called pop art pioneer R.B. Kitaj one of her biggest influences — had her first solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in L.A. in 2007. Since then, she has collaborated on countless exhibitions in the L.A. area. She is best known for examining language through painting, sculpting, drawing and other art forms. Her exhibition “Born to Love” was showcased at the Lowell Ryan Projects gallery in 2019.
Grant was an adjunct professor at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, for several years. She has also worked as an MFA mentor at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and Syracuse University in New York. She served as the Vermont Studio Center’s visiting artist in 2019.
In September 2023, Grant said it was crucial that she had her own career established before beginning a high-profile relationship with Reeves.
“The good news about falling in love as an adult is that I had built my own career by the time that my relationship had begun,” she told People. “I feel very confident in the relationship on the red carpet. I feel confident on it alone. It’s interdependent and independent in the best ways.”
2. Grant Is a Philanthropist
In 2008, the Ohio native founded the grantLOVE project, which produces and sells original artworks to benefit artist projects and nonprofit organizations. She has also worked with the childhood education groups Heart of Los Angeles and the Lamar Foundation, Project Angel Food — which provides meals for vulnerable people in the L.A. area — and The Union for Contemporary Art.
3. Grant Has Known Reeves Since 2009
The now-couple met at a dinner party in 2009. Grant went on to provide the illustrations for Reeves’ 2011 and 2016 books, Ode to Happiness and Shadows, respectively.
Together with artist Jessica Fleischmann, Grant and Reeves formed their own publishing company, X Artists’ Books, in L.A. in 2017. X Artists has published books across a wide variety of genres and even has a curated subscription option that brings together authors and artists to “interrogate the social, political, ecological, and cultural systems that weave throughout the world.”
Grant’s own material has featured in the XAB Subscription sets, in addition to published works from contemporary artist Vincent Valdez, French playwright Hélène Cixous and dancer Blondell Cummings, among many others.
4. Grant and Reeves Bonded Over Motorcycles
Reeves is an avid fan of motorcycles, having launched his own ARCH Motorcycle Company in 2011 to create custom bikes. Reeves was reportedly very hands-on in developing the manufacturer’s two models: the KRGT-1 and Method143.
As it turned out, Reeves found a kindred spirit in Grant when it came to his favorite hobby.
“Alexandra actually rode motorcycles and can ride,” Reeves confirmed to E! News in 2022. “We have been on a couple of trips together on the motorcycle. We have enjoyed it!”
5. Grant and Reeves Both Denied Wedding Rumors
Rumors swirled that the couple tied the knot over the summer in 2025, though both Grant and Reeves quickly shut down the speculation. The John Wick actor’s spokesperson confirmed to E! News that the marriage rumors are “not true,” adding definitively: “They are not married.”
Grant also debunked the speculation in September 2025 by sharing a photo of the pair kissing via Instagram.
“This is a real photo. Not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement… simply a kiss,” she wrote.
Grant clarified that the photo was taken shortly after Reeves interviewed artist James Turrell for his Roku series, Visionaries.
“I’m sharing [the photo] here to say thank you to everyone for the congratulations on our wedding. Except we didn’t get married,” she explained. “Good news is much needed these days, but it’s still fake news, so be careful out there!”
