Mets Cut Ties With Disappointing Veteran

The Mets are designating veteran outfielder Jose Siri for assignment, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic.
Siri appeared in only 16 games this season with the Mets, batting .063. The 30-year-old was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays last November in a trade for pitcher Eric Orze.
In 372 career games with the Houston Astros (2021-22), Rays (2022-24) and Mets (2025), Siri has garnered rave reviews for his defense but struggled to hit at the major league level. He’s a career .206/.263/.400 hitter, with 54 home runs and 137 RBIs in 372 games.
Siri hit a career-high 25 home runs with the Rays in 2023, and hit another 18 in 130 games last year, showing flashes of becoming a more well-rounded player.
But he never got off the ground with the Mets. He fractured his left tibia in April. He wasn’t cleared to begin a rehab assignment until August. In five games with Triple-A Syracuse, the Mets’ top farm team, Siri batted .200.
When he was finally activated, Siri played sparingly after going 1 for 4 with a double in his return.
Tyrone Taylor is being activated from the injured list in a corresponding roster move.
