For information on submitting an obituary, please contact Reading Eagle by phone at 610-371-5018, or email at obituaries@readingeagle.com or fax at 610-371-5193.
Most obituaries published in the Reading Eagle are submitted through funeral homes and cremation services, but we will accept submissions from families. Obituaries can be emailed to obituaries@readingeagle.com.
In addition to the text of the obituary, any photographs that you wish to include can be attached to this email. Please put the text of the obituary in a Word document, a Google document or in the body of the email. The Reading Eagle also requires a way to verify the death, so please include either the phone number of the funeral home or cremation service that is in charge of the deceased’s care or a photo of his/her death certificate. We also request that your full name, phone number and address are all included in this email.
All payments by families must be made with a credit card. We will send a proof of the completed obituary before we require payment. The obituary cannot run, however, until we receive payment in full.
Obituaries can be submitted for any future date, but they must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior to its running for it to be published.
Please call the obituary desk, at 610-371-5018, for information on pricing.
Penn State center Nick Dawkins has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, presented annually to college football’s top scholar-athlete.
The 6-4, 295-pound Dawkins is one of 177 players nominated by their respective schools across all divisions for the award, which is based on academics (at least a 3.2 GPA), outstanding football ability and strong leadership and citizenship.
The National Football Foundation will announce 12 to 16 finalists Oct. 22. Each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and will be invited to the NFF Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 9 in Las Vegas, where the winner will be announced.
A Parkland High School graduate, Dawkins is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection who’s in his second season as a starter and team captain for the Nittany Lions.
He won the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, which embodies former Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel’s commitment to being a humanitarian and honors student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society.
Dawkins founded the Dawkins Family Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering communities through youth engagement. The foundation has awarded several scholarships to high school seniors and collaborates with the Lehigh Valley YMCA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America to provide book bags for children and teens in need.
He has interned with the YMCA of Centre County, where he developed a multi-sports camp and an Olympic Games camp as part of its summer youth programs. He also volunteers at Parkland sports camps.
