The New York Giants are in a desperate positions, since they’re one of the last NFL teams that’s 0-3 after their weekend loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Plus, it seems unfair, but the Giants are laced with the most difficult schedule in the NFL this season, so it’s not getting any easier.
Next up, the Giants are set to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, September 28, at home. But, the team will look very different on Sunday, because they’ll be heading into the game with a new quarterback, rookie Jaxson Dart. Of course, the Giants had signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston ahead of the 2025-26 season, but after three losses, they’re going to give Dart a shot.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll and Dart opened up about the move on Wednesday, September 24, during a meeting with reporters. Dart was the team’s 25th-overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and they traded up to get him, so it’s a big deal that he’s already getting his first start in the NFL. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reported the news on Tuesday, September 23, Wilson will serve as QB2. It sounds like this is a permanent move, too.
Brian Daboll Confirms the Team’s Q1 for the Rest of the Season
During his press conference on Wednesday, Daboll said that going with Dart was his decision. But, he also said something very important, and it’s basically that Dart is going to be their Q1 going forward.
“We’re going to get him ready to play this week and the remainder of the season,” Daboll said. “He’s going to do everything he can. Russ will be the backup.”
The key words there are “the remainder of the season.” So, it appears Daboll isn’t just testing Dart out for one game. He’s planning on Dart being the Giants’ guy for the entire season.
There appears to still be a warmness between Daboll and Wilson. After Daboll’s press conference on Wednesday, Newsday Sports’ Evan Barnes stated that and the two even hugged and embraced. So, it’s good vibes all around, at least in public.
Russell Wilson Shares His Faith After Quarterback News
According to a report form NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Tuesday, September 23, Daboll told both quarterbacks about the change before the media got the story. So, it’s good that they didn’t have to find out the hard way.
Wilson responded in a classy way. He took to social media and shared a Bible verse. He has made it clear that he’s a man of faith and God, so it makes sense that he would share something of faith after getting the bad news.
