Nepal is currently facing its worst political and civil unrest in decades, following the mass resignation of the country’s Prime Minister, Home Minister, and President amid violent nationwide protests. The unrest was triggered by a controversial social media ban, which led to widespread public outrage, particularly among the youth. Despite the resignations, the protests have only intensified. Thousands of demonstrators continue to occupy the streets of Kathmandu and other major cities, setting government buildings ablaze, including the Parliament, Supreme Court, and Presidential Palace. Protesters stormed the homes of key political figures such as former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, attacking both him and his wife. Financial and media institutions associated with the ruling party were also targeted, including the Bhatt Bhateni supermarket and Kantipur Media House. So far, 24 people have been reported dead, and nearly 2,000 prisoners have escaped amid the chaos. The Nepalese Army has taken control of key areas and is urging calm, while political leaders scramble to form a new government. The situation remains highly volatile, with fears of further violence if no resolution is found soon.
