MIDLAND, MI — Northwood University officials announced the college raised more than $20 million to support automotive education during a sold-out 62nd Northwood University International Auto Show last week in Midland.
Northwood President Kent MacDonald made the announcement at the event, marking a significant milestone in the university’s “When We Are Free” campaign. The $20 million achievement brings the campaign to more than 75% of its $100 million goal, officials said.
The fundraising success coincided with what MacDonald called the nation’s largest outdoor, student-run auto show reaching unprecedented heights.
The president highlighted new program expansions, including the launch of an Automotive & Mobility master’s degree program and expansion into the motorsports sector as evidence of Northwood’s growing reputation in automotive and mobility innovation.
The $20 million will fund new endowed professorships and scholarships for the university’s Automotive Marketing & Management and Automotive Aftermarket Management degree programs. Money will also support the Center for Automotive & Mobility Studies and infrastructure projects, including renovation of the existing NADA Hotel and Conference Center, officials said.
MacDonald credited donor generosity for the milestone, calling the support “a clear reflection of the automotive industry’s deep belief in Northwood as the top destination for developing talent and leadership across the automotive, mobility, and aftermarket sectors.”
Matthew Bennett, vice president of enrollment, strategic partnerships, and CAMS, in a statement said the achievement strengthens educational opportunities for future automotive leaders.
“This $20 million achievement strengthens our programs and expands opportunities for students who will become the next generation of free-enterprise leaders in automotive and mobility,” Bennett said.
