Former Employee At RivCo Recycling Center Shoots Woman, Kills Himself

The woman, who is in critical condition, works for the property owner in some capacity, an official said.
RIVERSIDE, CA — A former employee opened fire on a woman at a Riverside recycling center Tuesday, then tried to shoot others before killing himself, authorities told Patch.
The shooting was reported around 8:10 a.m. along the 6100 block of Columbus Avenue, where arriving officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Riverside police.
The shooter had recently separated from the business, Officer Ryan Railsback told Patch. Meanwhile, the woman, who remained in critical condition Wednesday morning, works for the property or the property owner in some capacity, he said.
Railsback said the gunman shot the woman several times, then began firing toward a building on the property where other employees were inside, but no one was hit. After circling another vehicle, he turned the gun on himself.
“We don’t know what the motive is,” Railsback said. “We don’t know if this is more of a workplace situation or if this had anything to do with something outside of work.”
It was previously reported by other outlets that the shooting unfolded at Pepe’s Towing Service. Railsback confirmed that while Pepe’s is on the same property, the shooting occurred at the neighboring recycling center.
The identity of the shooter is pending notification of next of kin.
