Us Weekly has exclusively learned that Nina Dobrev and Shaun White are still in contact following their shocking split earlier this month.
A source revealed to Us that the former couple still speak sporadically since various aspects of their lives are intertwined. In particular, Dobrev, 36, and White, 39, are working out “next steps” on the home they share, which is currently under renovation.
The insider noted that Dobrev and White are actively working to get on the same page in terms of finalizing details with their home, since it’s all still very fresh.
Us reported on September 15 that the Vampire Diaries alum was “devastated” over the sudden end of her and White’s relationship. There had been no outward signs of trouble, as White and Dobrev were photographed holding hands while visiting a Los Angeles farmer’s market on August 31 and later posed in bed together days before breaking up.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Us learned that infidelity played no role in Dobrev and White ending their engagement, nor did they disagree over starting a family. A source confirmed to Us that “they both wanted a family,” so it wasn’t a situation where “one wanted [a family] more than the other.”
Instead, an insider clarified that White and Dobrev simply grew apart after dating for the past five years. (They got together in 2020, with White popping the question with a five-carat ring from designer Lorraine Schwartz at The Golden Swan in New York City in October 2024.)
“There was no drama here. No cheating was involved,” a source told Us earlier this month. “They were loyal to each other their entire relationship. At the end of the day, they’re human beings, just like everyone else. They genuinely just grew apart and realized they would be better off just as friends and not husband and wife.”
Both have kept busy since going their separate ways. Dobrev initially spent time with her family in Canada before meeting up with Keleigh and Miles Teller and other close friends in the South of France for a lavish getaway.
While Dobrev was photographed laughing and joking with Zac Efron on a private yacht, Us confirmed on Monday, September 22, that the two are simply good friends.
“Nina and Zac are not dating and have been good friends for over a decade,” an insider exclusively told Us. “Their friends always joke that they should date, but that is not what is going on. They have been there for each other through many phases of life and have always had each other’s back.”
Meanwhile, White initially jetted off to Beijing, China, on September 14 to promote his winter sports tour, The Snow League. He then appeared on NBC’s Today on September 16 to discuss the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
While he did not discuss his and Dobrev’s breakup on Today, White addressed what it will be like to attend next year’s Olympics as a spectator following his retirement at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2022.
“I’ll be running around, definitely supporting my friends competing and just taking it in,” he said on Today. “This will be my first Winter Olympics where I’m not competing, so a lot of feelings there, but honestly, I’m excited to support and check it out.”
