Latest Dallas Cowboys injury update raises concerns of another horrendous defensive performance ahead of Week 3

Though not a surprise, Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday’s practice ahead of a Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Bland, who is dealing with a foot injury, missed Week 2 against the New York Giants. His absence was partly what led to a big-time performance from Russell Wilson’s offense. Giants’ slot receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, who would’ve largely been Bland’s responsibility had he played set a career-high 142 receiving yards. Reddy Steward took his spot last Sunday. Though Steward himself didn’t get burned as bad as other Cowboys DBs were, Dallas missing Bland raises concerns of another long day on defense. Bland wouldn’t fix all the problems, granted, but he sure as heck would better Matt Eberflus’ unit. Fortunately, despite his status on the injury report, it’s too early to rule Bland out. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said earlier in the week Bland had a “real chance” of returning in time for the Bears game, though he made no guarantees. Game statuses are revealed Friday on the final injury report and inactives are announced 90 minutes before gametime.

Wednesday’s practice was only a walkthrough, which Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer explained was a result of playing 70 minutes of football on Sunday’s overtime win. “I told our guys from Day 1, if they go all out for us, we’ll take care of them,” Schottenheimer told reporters on Wednesday.
