Shaboozey tour in Virginia Beach: What to know

Shaboozey, the hip-hop country artist whose club anthem “A Bar Song” rocketed to the top of the charts for a record-breaking stretch, is taking the stage in Virginia Beach.
Collins Obinna Chibueze, known as Shaboozey, will perform Saturday at The Dome as part of “The Great American Roadshow” tour, which is passing through 12 cities from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale.
His Neptune City show will mark a return to his home state. Shaboozey is originally from the Woodbridge area in Northern Virginia. His stage name originates from a nickname he was given by a coach who mispronounced his surname, which is Nigerian, while he played high school football there, he’s told broadcasters.
“A Bar Song,” also called “Tipsy,” held the No. 1 spot of the Billboard Top 100 for 19 non-consecutive weeks, an achievement that has been matched only by “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.
The hit is part of Shaboozey’s 2024 album, “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going,” which has has been certified platinum, having sold over 1 million copies. A culture critic for The New York Times lauded it for bringing “hip-hop grit” to country, and a reviewer with Rolling Stone praised it for honoring country tradition and moving the genre forward. On its success, Shaboozey released an extended cut of the album this year.
Shaboozey, named best new artist last year at the People’s Choice Country Awards, boasts 22.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” having been played nearly 1.5 billion times.
