The Costa del Sol’s own Charlie Mullins OBE, the celebrated entrepreneur and much-loved Marbella resident, stole the spotlight at the Variety Legends of Industry Awards 2025, held at the glamorous Hilton Deansgate Hotel in Manchester.
The black-tie gala, which raised an impressive £100,000 for Variety, the Children’s Charity, which Mullins has been involved with for 5 years, honoured him for his entrepreneurial brilliance and establishing his status as a UK icon. On accepting the award, Charlie said that he had previously helped the charity obtain a couple of minibuses. He recalled, “I remember seeing the minibuses of Variety years ago and thought, wouldn’t it be lovely to do something like that?” He continued, “It’s not about getting the award; it’s about helping the children and continuing to help them,” before being drowned out by rapturous applause. He compared the honour of receiving the Variety award to that of being awarded the OBE.
Costa del Sol’s own Charlie Mullins moment of pride
The annual event, a glittering affair attended by hundreds of guests from business, sports, and entertainment, recognised outstanding contributions across industries while supporting disabled and disadvantaged children in the North West of England. For UK expats on the Costa del Sol, where Mullins is a household name, his award was a moment of deep pride, reflecting on his journey from a North London plumber to a celebrated figure splitting his time between the UK and Marbella’s sunny shores.
Mullins, who founded Pimlico Plumbers and the innovative WeFix, received the Entrepreneurial Achievement Award for his decades-long impact on British business. Known for his straight-talking charm, media commentary, and flamboyant style, Mullins captivated the audience with his acceptance speech. “It’s a privilege to be recognised alongside such incredible people,” he said, “but the real win is raising vital funds for Variety’s kids. This night shows what we can do when we come together.” His words resonated deeply, especially with expats who admire his success and community spirit from afar.
Entrepreneurs honoured by children’s charity
The gala, hosted by Variety North West, featured a star-studded lineup of honourees, including football legend Jill Scott MBE, broadcaster Vanessa Feltz, snooker icon John Parrott MBE, pop star Sonia, and The Chase star Anne Hegerty. Yet, for the Costa del Sol community, Mullins was the evening’s highlight.
For Mullins, the award crowns a remarkable career. After selling Pimlico Plumbers for £145 million in 2021, he launched WeFix, continuing to innovate in the home services sector. His frequent presence on the Costa del Sol, where he owns a luxury villa and supports local charities, has endeared him to the expat community.
