Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday (september 23, 2025) said that potholes exist even on the road leading to the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi, but the issue is being exaggerated in Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, Mr. Shivakumar said, “I travelled across Delhi just a day ago. The media should review and report on how many potholes exist on Delhi’s roads, including the road to the PM’s residence.”

“Potholes are a problem across the country. Only Karnataka’s situation is being blown out of proportion. I want to assure everyone, including major businesses in Bengaluru, that we are working to fill the potholes,” he added.

He further stated that about 200 potholes are being filled daily in each of the five corporations, amounting to nearly 1,000 potholes a day.

“We wouldn’t have reached this stage if the roads were properly maintained during the BJP’s tenure. They did nothing to fix the potholes, but now they are raising the issue with elections approaching,” he said.

Mr. Shivakumar’s remarks assume importance amid sharp criticism by the business community of Bengaluru on infrastructure issues. Industry leaders, including former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, had urged action after logistics firm BlackBuck announced plans to relocate from ORR area, citing poor road conditions.

Mr. Shivakumar had said that the government ramains unfazed by threats and blackmail, and Bengaluru remains a city of opportunities for businesses.
