Scotland's best luxury retreats crowned as 'Highland oasis' beats top Edinburgh hotel

The top luxury hotels in Scotland have been named in a new roundup. Topping the list is a hidden gem Highlands retreat. On Tuesday, September 9, Wander Somewhere shared a list of the “best luxury and boutique hotels in Scotland”. The travel website rounded up holiday accommodation across the country “where design, dining, and setting combine into something unforgettable”. Coming in at number one on Wander Somewhere’s roundup is Links House in Dornoch. The five-star luxury hotel is situated less than 100 yards from the first tee at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, and around an hour’s drive from Inverness . Links House features 15 bedrooms, each of which is individually designed and named after one of Scotland’s salmon fishing rivers. Guests can also enjoy hearty breakfasts, afternoon teas, Sunday lunches, and more. Wander Somewhere praised Links House for its coastal location, with easy access to seaside walks . The experts also singled out the hotel’s “cosy-lux” guest rooms. Wander Somewhere wrote: “Links House by Royal Dornoch is a gorgeous luxury hotel in the charming town of Dornoch on Scotland’s East Coast. Scotland’s most northerly luxury hotel, this is the perfect place for a weekend getaway or stayover on the NC500.” The experts added: “The charming and serene Highland oasis truly set a benchmark for an unforgettable experience in the Scottish Highlands. Perched beside the coast, it offers easy access to golden sands and coastal walks, plus the postcard-perfect town with its cafes, bars, and stores. “We instantly fell in love with the cosy-lux rooms at Links House, the immaculate decor, the whisky lounge, and the exceptional dining in the onsite restaurant MARA. When it comes to visiting Scotland’s East Coast, Links House at Royal Dornoch is an incredible option.” Elsewhere, the Marmalade Hotel in Portree placed second on Wander Somewhere’s list of the best luxury hotels in Scotland. The hotel is set within mature gardens and offers picturesque views out over the town of Portree on the Isle of Skye . The Marmalade Hotel is a four-star hotel with rooms that include Nespresso coffee machines, Bose sound systems, and 300 thread count sheets. It is also home to the Chargrill Restaurant, which specialises in dishes straight from the grill and fresh seafood. Wander Somewhere shared: “With only 34 luxurious rooms across the entire property, Marmalade Hotel offers a very intimate and luxe experience in an idyllic location near Portree. An alluring combination of contemporary architecture and traditional manor house, rooms are beautiful with stunning countryside views and decorated with the cosiest furnishings.” Following behind in third place on the experts’ roundup is Righ Residences in Edinburgh. Comprising both a luxury hotel and serviced apartments, the accomodation is situated in the heart of the Scottish capital—a short walk from the iconic Princes Street. Wander Somewhere praised Righ Residences for its fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms that include rainfall showers. Also singled out was the aparthotel’s “lounge facilities and beautifully designed shared space”. Rounding out the top five on Wander Somewhere’s list are Glencoe House in Glencoe and Foyers Lodge by Loch Ness. The former was noted for its picturesque views and luxurious rooms, while Foyers Lodge earned praise for its “gorgeous décor”.
