Gavi’s Season In Jeopardy After Serious Knee Injury, Barcelona Suffer Big Blow

Barcelona midfielder Gavi is all but ruled out for five months after he underwent knee surgery, which will take him a long time to recover from, with the Spanish team confirming the development. This will be the second instance when the youngster misses out on a big part of a season, after 2023.
Gavi had only returned from a serious knee injury just over a year ago, but misfortune has struck again. He has not played for Barcelona since last month because of the setback and now the Blaugrana, who had hoped to avoid surgery, expect Gavi won’t be fit to return until early 2026.
The 21-year-old Spain international suffered a torn cruciate ligament two years ago in the same knee.
“MEDICAL NEWS. First team player Pablo Páez Gavira ‘Gavi’ has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus,” Barcelona tweeted on Tuesday night.

Since breaking through four years ago, Gavi has grown into a key figure for both Barcelona and Spain. However, this latest injury setback puts him in a race against time to regain fitness and form ahead of next year’s World Cup.
As Gavi starts his rehab, Hansi Flick’s team returns to La Liga action on Thursday with an away trip to Oviedo. They will then host Real Sociedad on Sunday, September 28, before welcoming Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday in a high-stakes European clash.
Having first received a “conservation course of treatment” in a bid to fix the issue, Gavi was put through “intense sports stress tests” on Sunday, September 21, the La Liga champions said.
