NICOSIA— Tourist arrivals in Cyprus reached an all-time high in August 2025, totaling 602,026 visitors — the highest monthly figure since records began in 1976, according to the Statistical Service.
The previous record was set just one month earlier, in July 2025, with 589,116 arrivals. Compared to August 2024, this year’s figures represent an 8.5% increase.
From January through August 2025, total arrivals reached 3,034,155 — up 10% from the same period in 2024, an increase of 275,528 visitors.
The United Kingdom remained the leading source of tourism, accounting for 32.1% of arrivals in August (193,091 visitors), followed by Israel at 17.5% (105,597), Poland at 7.0% (41,844), Germany at 4.6% (27,665), Sweden at 3.1% (18,636), and Romania at 3.0% (18,300).
The primary purpose of travel in August was leisure, with 86.5% of tourists visiting for holidays, 11.4% for visiting friends or relatives, and 2.1% for business. These figures are slightly lower than August 2024, when 87.3% came for holidays.
Outbound travel by Cypriot residents also surged
Cypriot residents made 238,740 trips abroad in August 2025, marking a 23.9% increase compared to 192,756 trips in August 2024.
The most common destinations were:
Greece: 33.1% (78,915)
United Kingdom: 6.8% (16,197)
Russia: 5.1% (12,084)
Italy: 5.0% (11,824)
The majority of trips (91.6%) were for holidays, followed by business (6.7%), studies (1.3%), and other reasons (0.4%).
