'We are excited about making long-term improvements to the home,' new owner says as £100K upgrade gets underway at Stourbridge care home

Hawcombe Care has added Comberton Nursing Home in Amblecote to its portfolio as part of a buy-and-build strategy.

Comberton provides nursing and residential care for up to 36 residents, including people with dementia, and employs 50 staff.

Hawcombe, which also owns The Hawthorns care home in Edgbaston, Birmingham, has acquired the home in King William Street from Astley Care for an undisclosed sum.

Imran Mian, director of Hawcombe Care, said the company is investing around £100,000 this year on improvements at Comberton, including new equipment and furniture, safety upgrades and redecoration throughout the building.

He added: “Comberton is a great home with a lot of potential. It has a good reputation and occupancy levels, and we are excited about making long-term improvements to the home.

“Its location fits perfectly with our expansion strategy and we are looking to grow further in the West Midlands as we assess other acquisition opportunities.”

Specialist business property adviser Montane Care brokered the deal on behalf of Astley Care, which is owned by Jay Patel and continues to operate four care homes across the Midlands and Cheshire.

Earlier in the summer, Montane brokered Astley Care’s sale of Hillcroft Nursing & Residential Home in Wordsley, near Stourbridge, to Gugan Healthcare.

Montane Care, which provides commercial advice on the sale and acquisition of care homes and childcare facilities across the UK, is part of the Montane group of businesses, which is headquartered in Buxton, Derbyshire.

Darren Edwards, healthcare agent at Montane Care, said: “This latest sale represents a growing trend within the care sector, where established operators are choosing to exit the market with strategic support, while newer operators and entrants bring fresh energy and ambition to the industry.

“Mr Mian approached the process with great commitment, clarity and an appreciation for the responsibility that comes with operating a care home of this calibre.

“The successful transfer of Comberton Nursing Home demonstrates that, with the right guidance, operators can confidently navigate the complexities of care home acquisition and take over a business that is both operationally sound and positioned for future success.

“Furthermore, the successful completion of this sale reflects both the enduring strength of the care market and our expertise in delivering seamless, strategic transactions.”

Mr Mian said: “I’m grateful for the Montane Care team’s guidance and expertise. Their clear communication, market insight and calm approach provided reassurance throughout the process and gave me the confidence to move forward decisively.”

Mr Patel said: “Having worked with Montane Care on a previous successful transaction, I once again entrusted the team to oversee the process. The transaction was smooth, efficient and well-managed from start to finish.”
