New York’s skies have been moody all week. And just when fans were gearing up for the Ryder Cup, the weather threw a curveball, even before the first tee shot was struck.
On Tuesday, Ryder Cup officials confirmed that the opening ceremony, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been moved up to Wednesday. The decision came after forecasts showed a high chance of thunderstorms and heavy showers rolling into Farmingdale.

The new schedule now places the opening ceremony at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, with a pre-show beginning at 3 p.m. Fans holding Thursday tickets will be granted access on both days.
Meanwhile, U.S. captain Keegan Bradley and European captain Luke Donald will still announce Friday’s pairings on Thursday, as planned, though the location is yet to be confirmed.

Wednesday, Sept. 24
The rescheduled ceremony lands on a day expected to be mostly cloudy and humid, with a 55% chance of showers. Winds from the east could affect early setup and staging. Temperatures will range from 68 to 78 degrees, making conditions sticky and unpredictable.
Thursday, Sept. 25
Had the ceremony stayed on Thursday, it would’ve faced a much tougher forecast. Expect mostly cloudy skies, multiple showers, and even a thunderstorm.

Humidity will be high, and rain with an 88% probability is expected at Bethpage. Temperatures will hover 70 and 75 degrees, while winds from the south could bring gusty conditions. Additionally, thunderstorms may disrupt any outdoor activity, including practice rounds.
Friday, Sept. 26 – Day 1
The Ryder Cup officially tees off with foursomes starting at 7:10 a.m. ET. Weather-wise, it’s a mixed bag. Expect intervals of clouds and sunshine, but the humidity sticks around.
A 55% chance of rain is expected, meaning a shower could interrupt play at any point. Temperatures will range from 66 to 75 degrees Mid-round delays are possible, especially during the afternoon four-ball session.
That said, Team USA’s JJ Spaun might welcome the conditions, showcasing glimpses of his control on slippery greens that he demonstrated during his US Open win.
Saturday, Sept. 27 – Day 2
Day two looks more promising. The course will have mostly sunny skies with a 25% chance of rain. But intervals of clouds and sunshine could test visibility and rhythm. Moreover, winds from the southeast at 6 km/h may challenge players’ speed control on approach shots and putts.
Sunday, Sept. 28 – Final Day
The final day brings ideal conditions for both teams to chase the Cup. Temperatures will range from 61 to 75 degrees, with just a 1% chance of rain. While clouds may block direct sunlight, the air will be crisp and calm, making it a perfect environment for singles matches.
