'Fake delivery driver' chased and found hiding behind a bin before being arrested in south Manchester

A suspected fake delivery driver was chased by police and found hiding behind a bin before being arrested in Gorton on Tuesday (September 16). The man was seen by officers during Operation Venture, aimed at tackling serious and violent crime in the area, carrying a food delivery bag. He ran away as he was approached. Extra officers attended and a chase ensued. Greater Manchester Police revealed he was later found hiding behind a bin and found to have been wanted on recall to prison for other offences. Never miss a story with the MEN’s daily Catch Up newsletter – get it in your inbox by signing up here The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery, two counts of failing to appear at court, one count of theft and one count of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. He remains in police custody. During the morning of activity, a car was also stopped on Seddon Street and a man inside the vehicle was searched. Officers uncovered cannabis, burner phones and cash in his possession. More cannabis was then recovered from an address linked to the man. The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs and remains in police custody. Another man, aged 30, was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen property and driving while disqualified after officers recovered a suspected stolen scooter. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE Superintendent Rick Thompson, of GMP’s Violence Reduction Unit, said: “Our dedicated Operation Venture officers are proactively deployed on the streets, arresting criminals and removing them from harming our communities. “During this deployment our officers arrested three men, conducted three positive stop searches, one positive house search, recovered class A and B drugs, seized one scooter and one car. “In August 2025, Op Venture officers made 35 arrests and 77 stop searches and for September we are already at 26 arrests.
