5 games to watch from BVSD and SVVSD

In Week 4, Fairview star football player Toray Davis was a homecoming king in his own right, scoring eight times in the Knights’ festive, 61-42 win over Monarch.
Big Knight: Toray Davis’ 8 TDs spoils Monarch, transfer QB Nico Rizzello’s upset bid
Three days later, he may have delivered more reason for celebration around town after announcing that his recruitment was back open.
Davis had been committed to UCLA before he took to X and succinctly wrote: “Recruitment is reopened.”
On Friday, Davis didn’t hint at a possible change in his college landing when asked about UCLA, saying it was “the best choice for me.” But Monday signaled a change.
Before picking the Bruins in June, the senior had several Power 4 offers, including one from CU. His father Elton Davis was a defensive back with the Buffs in the mid-90s.
This week, Davis will look to add to his state-most 15 touchdowns as many eyes will be on him as the Knights go on the road to face Smoky Hill.
Below are five games to watch this week.
Lyons at Eaton softball; Thursday at 4 p.m.
This season, the CHSAA 3A No. 8 Lions (11-4) have proven they can hang right with the best teams in the classification.
Their four losses — to No. 2 University, No. 3 Wellington, No. 6 Brush and No. 18 Resurrection Christian — have been by a combined six runs. Now, they’ll look to get over their hump against No. 1 Eaton (13-3) this week.
Lyons has lost six straight to the Reds since its last win in the series in 2020.
On Thursday, Lyons ace Gretta Wynja went seven innings, struck out seven while allowing four runs — one earned — in a 4-3 loss to the second-ranked Bulldogs.
On Monday, she struck out eight in a 6-5 win over 4A No. 19 Berthoud.
Wynja is fourth in the state with 129 Ks this fall.
Frederick at Broomfield softball; Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
The CHSAA 5A No. 1 Eagles (13-2, 7-0 Granite Peaks League) haven’t lost to a team from Colorado in the regular season since 2023.
That 38-game winning streak is on the line against 4A No. 12 Frederick (11-4, 4-2), which has won six of its last seven games.
So far, Broomfield has outscored teams in the GPL 76-7.
Erie at Mead boys soccer; Thursday at 6 p.m.
The CHSAA 5A No. 12 Tigers (6-0-1) stayed undefeated this fall with wins over 3A defending champ Holy Family and Lewis-Palmer last week.
They travel to 4A No. 10 Mead (5-1-1), which had also been unbeaten before losing 3-1 to Holy Family on Sept. 15.
The Mavericks have just one win (coming in 2021) in 11 meetings against the Tigers dating back to 2014.
Mead at Lewis-Palmer football; Friday at 7 p.m.
The Colorado Preps 3A No. 2 Mavericks (3-0) have outscored teams 125-6 through three games.
But ask Holy Family — unranked Lewis-Palmer (2-2) isn’t an easy task.
In a 27-26 loss to the fourth-ranked Tigers last week, the Rangers rallied from 18 down but, alas, were stopped on a two-point conversion with 35 seconds remaining that would have likely won the game.
On Oct. 3, Mead hosts Holy Family.
Fairview at Smoky Hill football; Friday at 7 p.m. at the Stutler Bowl
The CP 5A No. 7 Knights (3-1) might very well be too much for Smoky Hill (2-2). They were last year when they beat the Buffaloes, 56-0.
But many eyes will be glued to Davis after he announced his recruitment had reopened Monday on X. Last week, the state-leader in TDs this season finished with (and this is no joke) 204 rushing yards, 59 receiving, eight touchdowns, 16 tackles and two interceptions in a win over the Coyotes.
Davis’ 15 TDs are one ahead of 5A Arvada West RB Jaiden Green, who scored three of his 14 in the Wildcats’ 34-33 win over the Knights on Sept. 5.
