Two workers, including SL woman, killed in fireworks unit accident near Alangulam

Two persons, including a Sri Lankan national, B. Gowri, 50, were charred to death and four other workers injured in a fire accident at a fireworks unit, Divya Pyrotechnics, at Gangarseval under Alangulam police station limits in Virudhunagar on Wednesday.

According to the police, Gowri, who was a resident of the Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp at Thulukkankurichi, was killed on the spot after friction while handling chemicals for making fireworks triggered an explosion at around 1 p.m.

S. Kalimuthu, 53, who was critically injured with 100% burns, was rushed to the Government Hospital in Sivakasi, where he succumbed to injuries within a couple of hours.

The others injured — K. Meghala, 21 (with 40% burns), V. Sivaranjani, 39, Vijayalakshmi, 60, and K. Mariammal, 40 — were getting treatment at the GH.

Alangulam police are investigating into the accident.
