Heavy rains continued to lash many parts of Dindigul district for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. The heavy rains in the evening left the arterial roads and the interior lanes inundated and unmotorable.
The heavy downpour began at around 4 p.m.. It continued for well over an hour after which the intensity of the rain reduced. Traffic came to a standstill. Vehicle users and pedestrians found it difficult to move on the waterlogged roads.
For the second consecutive day, the patience of the office-goers and the students were tested. They had to wait for the intensity of the rain to reduce to get back home after a long day.
In Dindigul, places like AMC Road, R.M. Colony, Madurai Road, Palani Road, Nagal Nagar, NGO colony, Chennamanayakkanpatti, Chettinaickenpatti and nearby places received good rainfall. Other parts of Dindigul district like Kodaikanal, Natham, Sanarpatti, Gopalpatti, Vedasandur, Balakrishnapuram and Sendurai also received good rainfall.
In Theni district, the Kumbakarai waterfalls near Periyakulam was closed for tourists due to widespread rain in the Western Ghats. The officials said the waterfall will be closed till further orders due to heavy rains. It will be opened for tourists only after the water flow stabilises.
Some parts of Ramanathapuram district received decent rainfall for about half an hour. Rainwater had entered Ramanathaswamy temple. The floors of the temple premises were swept and the water was cleared immediately. It remained cloudy for the rest of the day in the district. It was cloudy for most part of the day in Sivaganga district.
