Warriors Expected to Sign 4 Top Free Agents

The Golden State Warriors currently have nine players on their roster, with less than a month before the 2025-26 season begins. There is, however, expected to be movement by the Warriors next week as training camp begins at the end of September.

NBA insider Marc Stein revealed Golden State plans to sign four top free agents remaining on the market.

“Warriors veterans are expected to convene for a mini-camp of their own later this week before Golden State’s training camp officially opens Sept. 30,” Stein writes. “That knowledge inevitably makes you wonder how many of the familiar names Golden State has been expected for the past several weeks to sign once the Kuminga situation is resolved — Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II — can/will participate in that gathering if they haven’t officially signed with the Warriors yet. None of those players can sign, remember, until after Kuminga does.”

The ongoing saga between the team and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga has seemingly stalled the rest of the Warriors’ plans for the roster.

The Kuminga holdup has been closely monitored as it will have a significant impact on the organization. The 22-year-old is the team’s best trade asset as he averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from beyond the arc in 47 games last season.

The Warriors’ latest offer is reportedly a three-year, $72.5 million deal, which includes a team option for the third year. Kuminga is expected to take the deal, but he will relinquish the control he fought so hard for throughout his prolonged free agency process.

Kuminga is also eligible to accept the one-year qualifying offer from Golden State, which would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season. The forward would take a considerable pay cut, surrendering approximately $40 million in guaranteed money, but it would give him the freedom to control his destiny.

Nevertheless, if Kuminga signs the three-year deal with the Warriors, the expected outcome is that the team will part ways with him at the trade deadline in just a few months.

“That’s because taking such a deal, as Kuminga’s agent Aaron Turner openly conceded Friday amid a series of media interviews he conducted, greatly increases the likelihood that Kuminga gets traded between Dec. 15 and the Feb. 5 trade deadline,” Stein added.

Expected Outcome in Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga Saga

Stein predicts Kuminga will end up signing the three-year deal, rather than return on the one-year qualifying offer.

“I tend to believe Kuminga will ultimately accept the Warriors’ three-year offer — provided it is still on the table — rather than attempt to play out next season on the one-year qualifier,” Stein writes. “The Warriors’ three-year pitch worth a shade over $75 million includes a team option for Year 3 and would compel Kuminga to waive his right to block any trade in Year 1 … two conditions that Kuminga’s camp have resisted all summer.”
