EXCLUSIVE: Pure Imagination Studios and Prime Universe Films have acquired exclusive rights to the monster truck brand, with an eye toward building a film and TV universe around it.
The multi-platform rollout will include a live-action feature, animated content, video games, and consumer products intended to introduce Bigfoot to a new generation.
Hailing from monster truck pioneer Bob Chandler and his Bigfoot 4X4, Inc., Bigfoot is widely recognized as the world’s first monster truck. Chandler created it over 50 years ago and in the decades since, has seen it become a symbol of power, innovation, and American ingenuity — amassing more than 50 world championships, setting dozens of world records, and capturing the attention of millions through live events, merchandise, and media.
The live-action Bigfoot feature will examine the true story of Chandler and the origins of the monster truck phenomen, blending ’80s Americana, underdog heroism, and high-octane action to tell a big, fun, family story as bold as Bigfoot itself. Animated efforts will include a 3D animated series, aimed at kids aged 5–9. That show is set on Chandler Ranch, where Bigfoot and friends tackle racing adventures and life lessons. In addition to new video games and digital content, Pure Imagination and Prime Universe will also be unveiling new consumer products around Bigfoot including toys, apparel, collectibles, and lifestyle goods.
In a statement to Deadline, Pure Imagination founder Joshua Wexler said, “BIGFOOT is more than a monster truck—it’s a symbol of determination, invention, and fun. We’re proud to partner with the Chandlers to launch a new era that roars across screens, consoles, and store shelves.”
Adrian Askarieh, founder of Prime Universe Films, said, “This is a lifelong dream project. Our goal is to honor Bob Chandler’s groundbreaking legacy and bring BIGFOOT to a whole new global audience.”
“When I built the first BIGFOOT truck in my garage 50 years ago, I had no idea it would turn into something this big—literally and figuratively,” said Chandler. “Seeing what Pure Imagination has planned is both humbling and thrilling. It’s incredible to think that BIGFOOT will keep inspiring kids, families, and fans everywhere with the same sense of fun and wonder that started it all.”
Founded in 2012, Wexler’s Pure Imagination Studios most recently exec produced and served as the animation studio for Piece by Piece, the Focus Features title that tells Pharrell Williams’ life story with Legos. The company’s portfolio includes animated series like LEGO Dreamzzz, Disney Princess: Castle Quest, immersive VR and AR projects like Alien Descent and Army of the Dead: Viva Las Vengeance, and other assorted works in theme park attractions, feature films, and interactive storytelling.
Askarieh’s Prime Universe gained recognition for producing the Hitman films and has since developed a slate of projects including a live-action Jonny Quest at Warner Bros., a Battle Chasers television series, Kane & Lynch, and The Last Bear, an adaption of the bestseller by Hannah Gold, which Hawkeye‘s Bertie Ellwood has just boarded to direct, with Studiocanal coming aboard as financier, distributor and sales agent.
