Bears Predicted to Add Trevor Goosby to Replace Braxton Jones

The Chicago Bears may soon be eyeing a new protector for Caleb Williams’ blindside. In CBS Sports’ latest mock draft, analyst Mike Renner projects the Bears to select Texas Longhorns left tackle Trevor Goosby with the 10th overall pick.

The Bears will likely have a higher draft selection, but at 6’7″, 312 pounds, Goosby has quickly risen from a relatively under-the-radar recruit to one of the top offensive line prospects in the country, ranked eighth overall by CBS Sports.
Renner sees Goosby as the answer to stabilizing the Bears’ left side, where Braxton Jones has been the starter since 2022. “Goosby impressed in his spot starts last season and has looked even better taking over for Kelvin Banks Jr. this fall,” Renner wrote. “He’s a gifted mover who can pass protect at a high level. He’d be a big upgrade from Braxton Jones on the left side.”
That endorsement highlights just how fast Goosby’s stock has climbed. His size, movement skills, and technical upside fit exactly what the Bears need as they continue building around Williams.
Goosby Athletic Profile Makes Him a Unique Prospect
Goosby’s rapid ascent has not gone unnoticed outside of CBS Sports. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman included him on his annual “College Football Freaks” list, citing his blend of size, explosiveness, and rare athletic ability for an offensive lineman. Feldman detailed the remarkable testing numbers that back up Goosby’s reputation:
Once ranked as the 34th best offensive tackle prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, Goosby has proven to be a terrific evaluation. As a redshirt freshman last season, he started two games, one at left tackle and the other at right. PFF gave Goosby an 80.8 pass blocking grade for the season, which was higher than Cameron Williams, Texas’ starter at right tackle, although the freshman had a much smaller sample size.
At 6-7, 311 pounds, Goosby clocked a flying 10-yard sprint of 1.44 seconds, grading at an extremely high level in terms of his acceleration for an offensive lineman. His max speed of 20 mph this offseason was almost as impressive. He bench pressed 365 pounds and jumped the highest of any of the Longhorn O-linemen. His leaping ability and body control are also evident in this video of him doing a 360-dunk last spring.
For the Bears, that kind of profile could be transformational. In an NFC North division that features some of the most formidable pass rushers, including Aidan Hutchinson, Micah Parsons, and Jonathan Greenard, Chicago needs a tackle who can mirror elite edge defenders snap after snap. Goosby’s combination of length, quickness, and recovery ability gives him the tools to do just that.
If the Bears ultimately make Goosby their pick, it would be a big-time upgrade over Jones, who’s struggled to stay consistent. For a franchise that has long struggled to solidify its offensive line, especially at left tackle, Renner’s projection offers a glimpse of what could be the next foundational piece for the Bears.
