The high school football game between Northside and Galax, scheduled for this Friday in Roanoke, has been canceled. Northside announced the move on social media Monday evening.
The cancellation was made due to a low number of available players on Galax. It’s the second straight week the Maroon Tide (0-4) have had to call off their game and the third time this season over the first five weeks. They lost 70-0 to Glenvar in their opener, forfeited to Graham in Week 2, fell 71-0 to Carroll County in Week 3 and forfeited to Radford last week.
The Vikings (3-1) are now searching for an opponent to replace their originally scheduled open week on Oct. 3, according to head coach Scott Fisher. Should they play a game that night, the Galax game will be ruled a no contest. If they’re unable to find a team to play, they’ll take a win via forfeit.
