Penneys urgently recall two popular products as customers warned to stop using them immediately

Penneys has issued an urgent recall on two popular products sold in stores across Ireland over safety fears – with the Irish retailer warning customers to stop using them immediately.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) announced on Tuesday that Penneys, which trades as Primark in the UK, has issued recall notices for two seperate items, with more than 18,000 affected products sold in Ireland.

The retailer is carrying out a recall of its Primark Water Balloon Pump, as the risk reported to the CCPC is “injuries”.

According to the consumer watchdog, the safety feature which prevents over-pressurisation of some products is not working as intended due to a manufacturing fault. The CCPC warn that an over-pressurised container could rupture, potentially leading to physical injuries.

The Kimball number of the affected product is 5252801 and the model number is ORIN 991062919.

The products were on sale between January and September 2023 and it is understood there are approximately 17,281 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

“If you believe that you may have purchased an affected product, discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children,” a CCPC spokesperson said in a statement.

“If you have purchased this product then please return it to any Penneys/Primark store where you will be offered a full refund. No proof of purchase or receipt is needed.”

Penneys has issued a separate recall of its The Nightmare Before Christmas-themed Primark DTR Glow in the Dark Colouring Set as the product presents a chemical risk due to excessive levels of strontium and aluminium.

The CCPC warned that this may pose a health risk if ingested, and anyone with one of these colouring books at home is advised to stop using it immediately and to keep it out of reach of children.

The barcode of the affected product is 5397323864378, while the Kimball number is 0309401.

This product was sold in store between October 2024 and March 2025, and there are approximately 1,562 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

If you have purchased this product you can return the item to any Penneys store for a full refund.
