These 5 Michigan universities rank in top-200 nationally, U.S. News & World Report says

ANN ARBOR, MI — Five Michigan schools has been ranked among the top-200 universities in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best National Universities Rankings published on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor was ranked No. 20 overall this year, tying with Carnegie Mellon University, University of Notre Dame and Washington University in St. Louis.
UM-Ann Arbor also received high marks in several categories, ranking No. 3 among top public schools nationally, No. 4 in business program offerings and No. 5 in both psychology and undergraduate engineering programs.
This year’s rankings were determined based on 17 academic metrics, including graduation rates, first-year retention rates, financial resources for students and peer assessment.
Over 400 schools were listed in the 2026 National Universities list.
Michigan State University was ranked No. 64 nationally, tying with North Carolina State University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and University of Miami.
MSU was also ranked No. 1 for its supply chain management and logistics business program, No. 28 in nursing programs, No. 29 among top public schools in the United States and No. 44 in economics programs.
The No. 1 spot on U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 National Universities list went to Princeton University, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Stanford University and Yale University.

Michigan Technological University at No. 158 (tie)
Wayne State University at No. 179 (tie)
University of Detroit Mercy at No. 183 (tie)

Grand Valley State University at No. 242 (tie)
Central Michigan University at No. 283 (tie)
