A FORMER JEP journalist who rebuilt his life after a stroke left him unable to speak, read or write will lead a talk next month exploring how adversity can be turned into leadership.
Ant Lewis, who also worked at Channel 103 before his stroke in 2007, will share his experience of “leading through adversity” at an event organised by Leadership Jersey at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on Wednesday 1 October.
The event, sponsored by Law at Work and supported by All Island Media, will be fundraising for Jersey Stroke Support – a charity that supports survivors and their families while also raising awareness of the medical condition.
It will include a networking session, a talk, and a Q&A, with attendees being encouraged to submit questions in advance as Mr Lewis uses specialist technology to communicate.
Since 2021, Mr Lewis has worked in the Government of Jersey’s Employment, Social Security and Housing department to help deliver the Island’s Disability and Inclusion Strategy.
Leadership Jersey, which is marking its tenth anniversary this year, said the event is an opportunity to hear first-hand how challenges can be turned into leadership lessons.
A spokesperson said: “In this inspiring session, Ant will share how adversity can be transformed into leadership that makes a real difference – whether in your workplace, community, or personal life.
“You’ll leave challenged to see ability differently, motivated to lead with empathy, and equipped with small, actionable steps that can create big change.
“Whether you’re a leader, aspiring leader, or simply passionate about making a difference, this is an evening you won’t want to miss.”
Organisers will also launch their annual leadership survey, which explores topics such as communication, workplace culture, diversity and job satisfaction.
Tickets are priced at £29.50 for general admission, £17.50 for students and charities, and £250 for a table of ten.
Leadership Jersey aims to raise awareness of leadership as an essential quality. The organisation offers a series of events and publications designed to inspire and promote the topic, and also provides practical support and motivation for current and future leaders.
Questions for the Q&A can be submitted here and tickets are available on Eventbrite.
