The New England Patriots have made a change to their cornerback room.D.J. James, a training camp star, has officially been released, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.”The Patriots are waiving CB D.J. James today, per his agents Joe DiBenedetto and Andy Simms,” Pelissero wrote on X. “A sixth-round pick by Seattle last year, James spent most of his rookie season with New England and was a training camp star this summer. Now, he’s headed to waivers.”James may not be without a team for very long as the reigning AFC champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, need help at cornerback. The need for corners is so deep that CBS Sports writer Josh Edwards labeled it their biggest need before the season even started.”The Chiefs signed Kristian Fulton, which allowed Trent McDuffie to move back to the slot,” wrote Edwards. “Jaylen Watson is the other projected starter. A lot could go wrong with that plan. It would not be a surprise if McDuffie moves back outside before season’s end.”McDuffie will be in the lineup for the Chiefs; it’s only a question of where he lines up. As for the other cornerback slots, it remains to be seen who lands a permanent home. This is where James could make his impact with the reigning AFC champions.Even if McDuffie returns to the outside, James could fill the slot corner role and provide a boost to the Kansas City secondary, especially after the way Justin Herbert tore that group to shreds on Friday in Brazil.More NFL: Patriots’ Recent Roster Move Could Suggest Star Cornerback’s Return
