Pricing Water Risk Takes On Growing Urgency Amid Scarcity Fears

Companies are starting to develop and disclose in-house prices for water that differ from fees charged by utilities, amid a growing awareness that water scarcity has the potential to upend business plans and impact revenue.
Today, about 5% of companies globally disclose an internal water price that allows them to quantify potential risks in financial terms, according to a report released on Tuesday by nonprofits CDP and Watermarq. Firms based in China, the US, Taiwan and India are among the most active in tracking water risk, with manufacturing, materials and food and beverage the leading sectors when it comes to reporting.
