North Lanarkshire Council formally approves its local public holidays for 2026

North Lanarkshire Council has formally approved its local public holidays for 2026. Each year the council is required to approve holidays for factories and businesses within the area. In Scotland these dates are determined by individual local authorities and therefore may differ between neighbouring council areas. The approved dates for 2026 are Friday 3 – Monday 6 April, the Glasgow Fair Monday of July 20, Monday September 28 and also Christmas and Boxing Day. These dates were chosen to respect traditional holiday periods such as New Year, Easter and Christmas, while also providing consistency to help businesses and employees with their planning. They are also intended to coordinate with regional and national patterns to avoid impact on cross-boundary travel and trade while also maintaining continuity with previous years. The dates were unanimously agreed at a recent meeting of the council’s finance and resources committee. *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here .
