Manchester City striker Erling Haaland revealed he received shocking “death threats” following his goal in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday. The City frontman’s sixth strike in five Premier League matches wasn’t sufficient for Pep Guardiola’s side to defeat the Gunners. Following the final whistle, Haaland was spotted interacting with fans both on and off the field. Moments after the match concluded, the Norwegian sensation handed his jersey to a young fan before heading down the tunnel. Upon departing the ground, he shared an image showing a handful of Arsenal supporters hurling abuse at the City squad as their coach departed the Emirates Stadium. Engaging with his followers on social media platform Snapchat, Haaland posted a selfie featuring a screenshot of a threatening message. Whilst seemingly enjoying a snack, Haaland captioned: “Getting death threats now as well.” His photograph displayed a message from a Snapchat user named ‘Dara’ stating: “You watch yoursel now mate. Don’t dare post another Snapchat story or it will be the end of you.” Judging by Haaland’s expression in the image, he appeared unfazed by the threatening communication. The Norwegian has frequently clashed with Arsenal players and their supporters. During the previous campaign, he was filmed tapping Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta on the shoulder before declaring “Stay humble, eh?” to the Spaniard, which subsequently became a popular phrase amongst Arsenal and other football enthusiasts. Myles Lewis-Skelly cheekily mimicked Haaland’s zen celebration after scoring in City’s 5-1 defeat to Arsenal last season. The scene was different in north London, with both City and Arsenal evenly matched. After Haaland put his team ahead in the first half, City fell back, doing their best to maintain their lead. However, their defence crumbled in injury time when Eberechi Eze lofted a pass to Gabriel Martinelli, who cleverly scooped the ball over Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the net. Following the draw, Guardiola told Sky Sports : “It’s difficult to analyse with all that’s happened this week. We play games like United and in the Champions League on Thursday and now today. The teams are so powerful in all aspects. The resilience – of course, it’s so difficult when you’re not effective in high pressing and you’re not effective in build-up. “It’s always so tough and so difficult to do it. We made some transitions. I think the result is fair. But in general, Arsenal were better. Of course, the schedule has an effect. Your mindset has to be strong. You know how many injuries we have.” Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
