Sunderland midfielder Habib Diarra has undergone surgery on a groin injury, and he’s expected to be out until December, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.
Diarra was a surprise omission from the Sunderland squad at the weekend, with questions being asked over his whereabouts. The 21-year-old had started every Premier League game leading up to Sunday’s match, but he was left out of the squad with no official update ahead of the clash.
The Senegalese midfielder has been a mainstay in the middle of the park since joining the club during the summer transfer window, and losing him will be a crucial blow for The Black Cats. Thankfully, they invested significantly in the summer market on a host of new additions, so they do have plenty of cover and competition in his position.
