Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, speaking at a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, hailed China’s rise as a “true miracle.”
The event, attended by Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, diplomats, parliamentarians, officials, and journalists, celebrated China’s achievements since 1949 under the leadership of Chairman Mao Zedong, successive leaders, and President Xi Jinping. Gillani credited the Communist Party of China (CPC) for its role in lifting millions out of poverty, advancing technology, and establishing China as a global leader.
Extending warm felicitations on behalf of the Parliament and people of Pakistan, he underlined that the Pak-China friendship is an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and iron brotherhood,” deeply rooted in trust, shared values, and people-to-people ties. He expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support for Pakistan in times of natural disasters, economic difficulties, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
On defence, Gillani highlighted joint ventures such as the JF-17 Thunder project and induction of J-10C fighter jets, describing military cooperation as a key pillar of regional stability. On the economic front, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), calling Gwadar Port the “gateway of trade and prosperity,” while stressing that CPEC represents shared dreams of regional growth.
He also praised cultural and educational linkages through Confucius Institutes, scholarships, and exchanges, noting that such initiatives strengthen people-to-people connections. Paying tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Chairman Mao Zedong, and Premier Zhou Enlai, he quoted Bhutto’s words that Pak-China ties are “rooted in principles, geography, and permanent human values.”
Referring to President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China, Gillani welcomed new agreements in textiles, livestock, and emergency relief, describing them as opportunities for Pakistan’s economic revival. He endorsed President Xi’s vision of building a community with a shared future, saying it closely aligns with Pakistan’s geo-economic and regional cooperation agenda.
Reflecting on his own long association with Chinese leadership, Gillani reaffirmed that “Pakistan and China are destined to walk together through history,” calling the friendship a positive force for regional stability, integration, and joint action against climate change, terrorism, and economic uncertainty.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, in his remarks, said that the back-to-back visits of Pakistan’s leadership to China reflect the strength of the bond and that future generations will carry this relationship to even greater heights.
