A woman who was found in possession of an indecent image of a child was also found in possession of Japanese cartoons depicting child abuse. On her phone was a fictitious story about parents sexually abusing their own baby. Jade Jones, 33, of Pontypridd , blamed the images on her father, claiming he had used her phone to download the horrifying material, but she was found guilty by a jury following a trial. A judge described the evidence against her as “overwhelming”. Evidence from Jones’ phone revealed she had a fascination with Japanese culture. During the hearing Judge Simon Mills referred to “truly horrendous story”, either written by the defendant herself or obtained from the internet, about a couple subjecting their baby to sexual abuse. The name of the baby in the story was also of Japanese descent. Jones, of Shakespeare Rise, Rhydyfelin, denied offences of possessing an indecent image, a prohibited image, and extreme pornography but was found guilty at trial. The court heard she was of previous good character and maintains her innocence despite her conviction. In mitigation John Ryan said his client was isolated from the outside world, suffered from anxiety and depression, and spent an excessive amount of time online to escape her depression. He said the defendant lost her employment after suffering a back injury. Sentencing, Judge Mills said: “The images you have been found guilty of having are all illegal. “In the case of the category B image an actual child was subjected to sexual abuse by a truly despicable person. “You’re not willing to show remorse and you’re still telling people it’s not you and was someone else. That’s nonsense.” Jones was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for two years. She was ordered to carry out a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and was made subject to the sex offenders register and a sexual harm prevention order for seven years.
