Former New York Jets wide receiver Xavier Gipson continues to get passed around.
On September 10, the Jets waived Gipson after his costly fumble in the Week 1 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was claimed on waivers a day later by the New York Giants. Nine days later, he was waived again. Once again, Gipson was claimed on waivers, but this time by the Philadelphia Eagles.
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero shared the news on social media.

“The Giants claimed Gipson off waivers three days before their Week 2 game. Made him a healthy scratch for that game and then cut him the day before their Week 3 game. Now he heads to Philly,” Dan Duggan of The Athletic said.

Punt Return Remains a Question Mark for the Jets
The Jets got rid of Gipson for multiple reasons, according to head coach Aaron Glenn.
One reason is reliability or lack thereof.
“In two-plus seasons, Gipson fumbled 10 times in various roles. He finished with 27 receptions for 268 yards and one touchdown,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed.
The other reason was inconsistency in the return game. That remains a question mark since the Jets ditched Gipson in the punt return game.
Isaiah Williams, the player the Jets replaced Gison with, has one punt return for 11 yards. An incomplete sample size.
Jets Found a Secret Weapon in the Kick Return Game
To start the 2025 season, the two lead kick returners for the Jets were Gipson and former All-Pro Kene Nwangwu.
Nwangwu has battled a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss the last two games. Gipson was thrown off the team after Week 1.
One of the names they turned to was backup running back Isaiah Davis.
In Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, Davis finished with five kick returns for 134 yards. He averaged 26.8 yards per return.
In Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Davis finished with three kick returns for 81 yards.
Davis wasn’t the hero the Jets wanted, but he was the hero they needed. Well, at least for the problems in the kick return game. A pleasant surprise in what has been a rough overall start to the season for the Jets at 0-3.
