A popular coffee brand in Cambridge has announced it will be closing one of its sites due to “the challenge of ever-rising costs”. Stir confirmed it would not be reopening its shop on the High Street in Fulbourn.
Stir said it made “the difficult decision”, after deciding it was “unsustainable” to keep running the shop. The brand said the rising cost of products and difficulty finding baristas to work in the area meant it was hard to stay open.
Stir said the Fulbourn site “has been a special part” of the brand and that it is “grateful” to everyone who had supported the shop. Customers in Fulbourn can continue supporting Stir by pre-ordering items on its website for collection from any of the other stores in the area.
The rest of the brand’s cafés and bakeries will remain open. Stir has sites in Chesterton, Cherry Hinton, Green Street, Histon, and Addenbrooke’s.
The Stir brand confirmed in a social media post that the Fulbourn site would not be reopening. It said: “We’ve had a few questions about our Fulbourn shop and whether it will be reopening. After a lot of thought, we’ve made the difficult decision not to reopen.
“Despite having some lovely, loyal customers, sales never reached the level we hoped for. Added to that has been the challenge of ever-rising costs and the difficulty in finding skilled baristas able to work in Fulbourn.
“All these factors together have made it unsustainable for us to keep Fulbourn running in the way we’d want to.
“Fulbourn has been a special part of Stir, and we’re so grateful to everyone who supported us there. We’ve loved being part of the community and we’d love to keep seeing you in our other outlets. You can also go to our website and pre-order your favourites for collection from any of our other sites.
“We hope to see you soon and thank you again.”
