Separately, Cabinet will hear that €50m is to be ringfenced for the second hand acquisitions programme to target the eight local authority areas — in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, and Waterford — with the highest number of families living in long-term emergency homeless accommodation.
Housing minister James Browne is expected to say there will be a particular focus on the acquisition of four-bedroom homes, which are not available under other delivery streams.
It is understood that Mr Browne has written to the authorities and approved them to enter into commitments for 2026 to a value of up to 30% of their original acquisitions budget for 2025.
Cabinet will hear that there should be sufficient funding available to meet all tenant in situ drawn down requests in 2025 taking into account the likely underspend by councils of the original allocations by a number of authorities.
Minister for social protection Dara Calleary will bring a memo to Cabinet regarding a new child poverty target for the years 2025 and 2030.
Mr Calleary will say that his department’s ambitious target will be achieved with targeted supports including the working family payment and child support payment.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin will tell Cabinet that Ireland’s support of Ukraine should be intensified in terms of security, humanitarian and political terms.
Mr Martin will provide an update on last week’s meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in relation to Ukraine where significant progress was made on a package of security guarantees that would underpin a future agreement.
Cabinet will also hear details of Mr Martin’s recent call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where they discussed the expansion of a free school meals programme supported by Ireland.
Meanwhile, Tánaiste and minister for defence Simon Harris will bring the Defence Forces strategy to Cabinet.
